9 Tips for Dealing with Plastic Surgery Recovery Under the Hot Phoenix Sun
If you are about to or have recently undergone plastic surgery you will need to make sure you give your body the best chance to recover. While a lot of people are happy to spend some time in the sun it’s important that you look after yourself post-surgery.
The Hot Phoenix Sun: plastic surgery before and after
1. Stay indoors for up to 2 weeks
Your surgeon will tell you to avoid the sun for up to 2 weeks during the summer and this is exactly what you should do. New or immature scars should never be exposed to direct sunlight. This is because they will tan and stay tan. This means the scars will be much more noticeable.
2. Wait until you’re completely healed
If you are tempted to go out in the sun please make sure your incision has healed completely before you apply any sunscreen to it. This will ensure you’re less likely to get an infection.
3. Apply sunscreen
If you have to go outside in the sun please apply sunscreen. You need to do this before you have your surgery but it’s vital you do it afterward. It’s essential that it’s applied around and on the incision area. You should do this even if your clothing covers your incision.
This is because sunlight can still make its way through your clothing and through windows. Wear sunscreen all the time as a precaution. Make sure you apply sunscreen at least 15 – 30 minutes before you go outside. If you have been outside for more than 2 hours you need to reapply the sunscreen. This is especially the case if you have been in the water or you have gotten wet.
4. Wear thicker clothing
When you go outdoors please wear thicker clothing. Avoid bathing suits or any thin materials. These items of clothing can leave the skin exposed to the sun. If the incision is covered up the sunlight can still filter its way through.
5. Wear a visor or a hat
If you have a plastic surgery scar on your face you should wear a visor or a hat. This is something you should do before you have surgery. Covering your head will help to limit sun exposure to your scar. You may wish to show off your surgery but please remember that scars tan easily.
6. Continue to limit sun exposure
You should ideally continue to limit sun exposure even if the scars have faded. This is because sun exposure can cause the skin to age. It can also cause brown spots and wrinkles. If you have had surgery on your face the sun can reverse the procedure’s results.
7. Stay hydrated
It doesn’t matter what type of surgery you’ve had it’s important to stay hydrated. This is because water can help to flush out toxins and rejuvenate your skin. Try to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day.
