Breast Birth Defects
Some women report with breast defects that caused their breasts either be absent or to be significantly different from one another or to be deformed in some way.
Patients with Poland syndrome are missing entirely the breast often significantly on one side as well as loss of the pectoralis muscle which leads to the asymmetry of the breasts. This can be corrected surgically as well.
Patients with tubular breasts have a narrowing of the base of the breasts and often a deformity the breast is asymmetric left-to-right which can be surgically corrected.
Amastia is a syndrome where there is entire absence of the breast. This can be corrected by augmentation and adjustment of the normal side.
Some young women are born with macromastia or mammary gigantism which is unusual but happens and requires breast reduction and requires correction usually of asymmetry.
All these congenital defects can be corrected to some greater or lesser degree surgically and require careful consultation with your plastic surgeon and Dr. Jacobsen is happy to talk with you about these.
You can also send a picture of your uneven breasts to Dr. Jacobsen as well.
