Dr. Jacobsen does do liposuction for patients.  Generally, this is a procedure that added to an additional procedure for recontouring.  Particularly ladies that have abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck wish to have a certain area contoured around the gluteal area order hips or thighs at the same operation as a tummy tuck.  Liposuction is intended to recontour an area that has abnormal protuberance or abnormal shape that does not respond to weight loss area it is not intended for weight loss or for whole body contouring.  Dr. Jacobsen does not feel it safe for large volume locked obstruction and therefore does not offer this to patients.  However, recontouring areas that are bothersome to woman can be very satisfied.  If this is done properly and no complications occurred a can be a very simple process.  With assisted be done safely generally under a general anesthesia and your postoperative care has to be perfect prevent complications.  Local anesthesia was used as well to prevent bruising and bleeding and to minimize postoperative pain.  Postoperative limitation of activity is very important and compression with a specific garment that we provide for you.  Often woman will come for liposuction of the lower abdominal wall.  Usually removal of the skin along with the fat underneath the skin is a better option than likely obstruction of the abdominal wall which can oftentimes leave scalloping and a cellulite looking appearance of the lower abdominal wall.  The most common area for liposuction are the lateral hips and the gluteal area.  Sometimes inner thighs as well.  Dr. Jacobsen does not perform liposuction of the face and neck.

What liposuction won’t do

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise.

It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite – the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips, and buttocks – or loose saggy skin.

Step 1 – Liposuction Anesthesia

Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The choices include local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.

Step 2 – The Lipo incision

Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions.

First, diluted local anesthesia is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
