Rhinoplasty Scottsdale
Here at Dr. J’s Office, we are pleased to be able to offer you our high-quality rhinoplasty service. With the ability to change the shape of your nose, rhinoplasty is a very common procedure. With the ability to also help improve breathing, it’s no wonder that more and more people in Scottsdale are opting for the rhinoplasty procedure.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Also known as a “Nose job”, rhinoplasty is a procedure that can change the shape of the nose or help to make breathing easier. Occasionally, this procedure is undertaken for both reasons.
The top part of the nose consists of bone and the lower part is made up of cartilage. Rhinoplasty can be used to change one or all of these areas.
Please note, before you undergo this procedure, your doctor will consider all of your facial features. This is to make sure that your “new” nose matches your other facial features.

What Happens During the Procedure?
During the procedure, you will be given local anesthesia or general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia you will receive depends on your doctor’s preference and the complexity of your surgery.

An incision
An incision will be made either between your nostrils or through an incision located at the base of the nose.
Changing the shape of your nose
Your doctor is likely to change the shape of your nose or your cartridge in a specific way. The method used will depend upon how much of your nose needs to be added or taken away. It will also depend on the materials that they use during the surgery.
If your doctor is going to make small changes, they might use cartilage that is taken from your ear or inside your nose. If your doctor is going to make big changes, they might use some cartilage from your ribs or bone from other areas of your body.
Deviated septum
If you have a deviated septum (A crooked or bent nose) the doctor might adjust your nose so that breathing is improved.
The stitches
Once the doctor has completed the required changes, they will place the skin and the tissue back in place. Finally, the doctor will stitch your nose back together.
After the Rhinoplasty Surgery
Once you have undergone your rhinoplasty, you will need to make sure you give yourself time to recover. Most people can leave the hospital after their operation. However, if you have health conditions that require monitoring or you’re feeling very nauseous, you may need to stay in hospital overnight.
The recovery time is usually 7-10 days. You will, therefore, need to take at least one week off work and your other obligations. This is to ensure that you recover properly. The good news is that during the first week after the surgery it’s likely that you will feel better every day.
Your nose is likely to swell after the surgery. In some cases, it might be months before the swelling completely disappears. The good news is that you should be able to return back to most of your usual activities after the first week. You should be able to return to all of your activities within 2-4 weeks. However, everyone recovers at a different rate so you mustn’t assume you have fully recovered for at least a few months.

Risks Associated with Rhinoplasty
As with any surgery, there are risks associated with rhinoplasty. The good news is that these risks are quite small. However, you should always speak to your doctor about the risks and any concerns that you may have. Do not worry, your doctor will be more than happy to talk with you about the risks and concerns.
Am I a Suitable Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
If you are considering undergoing rhinoplasty, you should make sure that you are a suitable candidate. Those who are likely to be suitable for this procedure are;
- Patients who have no serious illness or medical conditions
- Patients who have realistic goals
- Patients who do not smoke or can show that they can stop smoking
You will need to speak with the nose surgery doctor before you undergo the rhinoplasty procedure. This will ensure that you are a suitable candidate and that any medical concerns you have are accounted for.
