What Is Involved In A Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty involves surgery that changes the nose’s shape. The procedure is often carried out to help improve breathing, to change the nose’s shape, or both. Bone, skin, cartilage, or all three can be changed during the Scottsdale rhinoplasty procedure. The procedure itself will have an impact on your whole face. In fact, the changes can make you look quite different.

Crooked noses can become straightened, large or long noses can be made smaller. Once the procedure has taken place and you’re completely healed, your nose can look much better. This can work wonders for your self-esteem, especially if you have been conscious of your nose.

Are You A Good Candidate For Rhinoplasty?

It’s not always easy to say who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty. This is because the procedure will be different for everyone. Please make sure that if you undergo surgery, you’re doing it for yourself. It’s important that you realize this as surgery can occasionally be permanent. In addition to this, a nose that has a more natural shape will be more aesthetically pleasing.

After The Surgery

Good candidates for rhinoplasty are:

  • People who are physically healthy – If you have any physical health concerns, you might be asked to wait until you are healthier before going under the knife.
  • People who do not smoke – There are additional risks associated with smoking and any type of surgery. Some surgeons might ask you to quit smoking for at least 3 months before you have surgery.
  • Adults who have finished growing – If you’re still growing, there’s always a chance that your face will change its shape. This is why it is important that you wait until after you have finished growing.
  • People who have realistic goals and wish to improve their appearance while knowing that rhinoplasty has its limitations.
  • People who have had a little trouble breathing due to the position of their nose. Please note, your doctor might need to consider other procedures before recommending rhinoplasty. However, this is not always the case.

If you are not sure whether you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty, please contact us. All of our team is highly experienced. They can help you to understand whether you’re a good candidate. If they don’t think you are, they will discuss your options with you.

We only ever want to offer rhinoplasty and other types of surgery to people who are good candidates.

About Our Rhinoplasty Procedure

Before the procedure takes place, you will need to meet with your surgeon to discuss a few factors.

You will need to:

  • Discuss your medical history
  • Have a physical examination that may include a blood test
  • Take photographs of your nose from a range of angles
  • Discuss your expectations

As soon as the rhinoplasty procedure has been scheduled, you’ll need to organize how you will travel home after the procedure.

During the procedure

Please note, you will need to have anesthesia. This can be administered via general anesthesia or sedation.

The procedure will be undertaken by either making a small incision in your nose or inside your nose. The surgeon could readjust the cartilage and/or the bone under the skin. Depending on how much bone and/or cartilage needs removing, the surgeon could make large or small changes.

If you’re undergoing a large change, cartilage might be taken from your rib or other parts of your body. The skin and tissue will be placed back and stitches will be added.

If you’re undergoing a small change, cartilage might be taken from your nose or your ear.

If you have a deviated septum, the surgeon could correct it so that it’s easier for you to breathe.

After the procedure

Once you have undergone the procedure, you will need bed rest. You should make sure that your head is always higher than your chest. This will ensure swelling and bleeding are reduced.

Any internal dressings will need to be left in from one to seven days. You might also have a splint for extra support and protection. The splint could be in place for one week.

It’s common for you to experience slight bleeding. There might also be some mucus draining away.

Don’t worry, your surgeon will tell you what you should do to improve your chances of recovery. Please always follow any instructions that you are given.

If, at any time after the procedure you have questions or are concerned about anything, please contact us. We are here to help you before, during, and after your rhinoplasty procedure. We want you to be happy every step of the way.
